Senior Civil and Structural Designer
Job Overview
The Senior Civil and Structural Designer leads the development of technical drawings and design documents for civil and structural engineering projects. This person ensures design solutions meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements. The Senior Civil and Structural Designer collaborates with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to deliver project objectives on time and within budget.
Key Duties
- Prepare detailed civil and structural drawings using computer-aided design tools.
- Develop plans and layouts for foundations, frameworks, and other structural systems.
- Interpret engineering calculations and specifications to create accurate design documents.
- Review and update designs to reflect changes in project scope or client requirements.
- Identify and resolve design issues during project development.
- Check and verify drawings for accuracy, compliance with codes, and constructability.
- Coordinate design activities with other disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, and architectural teams.
- Follow industry standards and meet legal regulations for safety and environmental impact.
- Prepare bills of quantities and assist in preparing cost estimates for materials and labor.
- Contribute to design reviews and present solutions to project stakeholders.
- Maintain document control and update project records.
- Guide and mentor junior designers in design methods and best practices.

Required Qualifications

- Hold a diploma or degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrate experience in civil and structural design, including work on large-scale projects.
- Show advanced proficiency in computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD and Revit.
- Understand engineering standards, building codes, and safety regulations.
- Display strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical drawings.
- Use effective communication skills and work well in a collaborative team environment.
- Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced setting.
- Solve technical problems and provide practical solutions to design challenges.
- Show leadership and mentorship skills with junior team members.
- Possess professional certification or licensure as required by local authorities (if applicable).
