Senior Cyber Security Analyst
Senior Cyber Security Analyst | 6-Month Contract
Role Overview
Weโre hiring a Senior Cyber Security Analyst to join the Councilโs central ICT Cyber Security team, supporting operational resilience and the active Cyber Transformation Programme.
This hands-on, technical role focuses on:
- Endpoint threat detection (CrowdStrike Falcon)
- Daily security operations
- Internal compliance tracking
- Bridging technical security functions and governance frameworks
Youโll leverage your expertise to monitor, investigate, and escalate security issues, ensure policy adherence, and coordinate remediation to strengthen the Councilโs security posture.
Key Responsibilities
Security Monitoring & Alert Management
- Maintain visibility over the Councilโs security posture via CrowdStrike Falcon and integrated log management tools.
- Investigate and escalate actionable alerts where necessary.
Compliance & Governance Support
- Assist in maintaining alignment with NIST CSF (and other frameworks like ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus).
- Track policy compliance, documentation, and audit requirements across ICT teams.
Vulnerability Tracking & Reporting
- Oversee regular vulnerability scanning schedules.
- Analyze scan results and penetration testing reports, prioritising risks based on:
- Business impact
- Compliance deadlines
- Bonus points for experience in penetration testing or web application testing.

Remediation Coordination
- Serve as the primary liaison between security compliance and infrastructure teams.
- Track outstanding technical vulnerabilities and ensure system owners carry out remediation actions.
Incident & Risk Documentation
- Assist in maintaining the internal Cyber Risk Register.
- Document control failures and support minor incident investigations or root-cause compliance reviews.
Experience & Skills Required
Technical Proficiency
- Endpoint Detection & Response (EDR): Practical, operational exposure to CrowdStrike Falcon.
- Compliance Frameworks: Deep understanding of NIST CSF, ISO 27001, or Cyber Essentials Plus.
- Microsoft Security:
- Experience with Microsoft Entra (Azure AD) and Google Workspace, focusing on operational and security aspects.
- Public Sector Aware: Previous contracting in a UK Local Authority or broader public sector organisation (desirable but not essential).

Soft Skills & Communication
- Strong documentation & liaison skills for:
- Creating/updating policy standards
- Maintaining security registers
- Translating compliance needs into clear IT infrastructure requests.
- Exceptional written communication for governance and technical teams.
Qualifications & Certifications
(Preferred but not exhaustive)
Core Certifications
- CompTIA Security+, Network+, or CySA+
- CrowdStrike Certified User (CCU) (or higher, e.g., CCFA)
- Microsoft SC-200 (Security Operations Analyst) or SC-900
Nice-to-Have (Big Bonus)
- BCS CISMP certification
- ISO 27001 Foundation/Auditor training
- CISSP
- CCNA
Location & Type
- Location: Upper Hackney, England, UK (Hybrid: 1โ2 days office, 3โ4 remote)
- Contract Length: 6-month temporary position
- Rate: ยฃ450 per day
