Senior Cyber Security Engineer

Senior Cyber Security Engineer Siemens Mobility – Rail Infrastructure


About the Role

Join Siemens Mobility and contribute to secure, integrated rail infrastructure systems, ranging from signalling and electrification to power and SCADA, supported by advanced networks and cyber resilience. This assignment-based opportunity is based in our Ashby, Chippenham, or Birmingham offices (limited flexibility for Poole, York, or Glasgow).

As a Senior Cyber Security Engineer, you’ll design, implement, and lead cyber security solutions—aligning with industry standards (e.g., NCSC CAF, ISO 27001, NIST, IEC 62443)—while ensuring robust Operational Technology (OT) security across projects.


Key Responsibilities & Impact

You’ll drive security solutions and bring technical leadership to key areas:

  • Client Engagement & Strategy

    • Collaborate with customer security teams to distil security requirements aligned with standards.
    • Conduct gap assessments, risks analyses and document assurance evidence.
  • Technical Security Design & Oversight

    • Design secure system architectures (zoning, conduits) and security controls for rail systems.
    • Facilitate evaluation of third-party components to validate security aligns with client expectations.

  • Threat & Compliance

    • Perform threat/risk analysis, document countermeasures against risk criteria.
    • Support penetration testing (e.g. CTFd, Metasploit, Burp Suite) to uncover and remediate security vulnerabilities.
  • Operational Security implementation

    • Coordinate SIEM deployment and security monitoring solutions with the customer service team.
    • Assist in secure network configuration (firewalls, DMZ, agent-based security).
    • Support project teams through implementation verification (e.g. System Test, Factory Acceptance, Site Acceptance Tests).
  • Process Improvement & Mentorship

    • Champion lessons learned at project milestones and contribute to supporting ongoing incident response.
    • Mentor junior engineers and shape capability development.
  • Trend-awareness

    • Stay updated on emerging threats, regulatory changes, and technologies (e.g. IoT, Blockchain in OT).

Requirements

  • Education: Degree (or equivalent) in engineering, science, or numeric discipline.
  • Cyber Security Expertise:
    • 5+ years’ OT security engineering experience, particularly with IEC 62443.
    • Practical experience with penetration testing frameworks.
  • Certifications (Desirable):
    • NCSC/ISC²/NCSC (ICSP) certifications, or equivalent (e.g. CISSP, GICSP).
  • Interpersonal & Technical Skills:
    • Proven ability to mentor, lead, and drive cross-functional collaboration.
    • Enthusiastic approach to stimulating technical discussion with a broad audience.
