Job summary

This post can be based at our sites in either Ryton-on-Dunsmore (CV8 3EN), Durham (DL15 8DS), Harrogate (HG1 1EP) or London (E14 4PU). Hybrid working opportunities can also be discussed prior to you taking up your post. This role is also available as a designated homeworking role with some travel required.

This post is open to applicants who can meet the College’s nationality, UK residency and vetting requirements.

Job description

This role is available until 31/03/2027 as a fixed term appointment for external candidates or as a secondment for colleagues employed directly by the College, Civil Service or police forces.

Where we have extra suitable appointable candidates a reserve list will be held.

National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) & Public Protection (PP)

Would you like to join a skilled and dedicated team of professionals who are committed to reducing the VAWG and Public Protection (PP) harms across England and Wales, as part of a wider-system approach?

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to join the National Centre for Violence Against Women and Girls & Public Protection (NCVPP) which provides support to forces in tackling the threat of VAWG and PP and improving our services to victims. You will also work with academics, victim groups and across Government to support our ambition and to ensure our work reflects the lived experiences of diverse communities.

We are working to continually train and upskill our officers and staff with the specialist knowledge and expertise required to carry out their roles effectively. We also continue to develop programmes, expanding on existing best practice with a focus on perpetrators and preventing life-long harm to victims.

Are you an experienced data analyst who is passionate about using data as a driver for positive change? If so, the NCVPP looks forward to reading your application for the role of Senior Data Analyst. The successful candidate will support policing by providing high-quality data and analytical insight to inform strategy, decision-making, and professional practice across Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) and Public Protection, including child protection.

As part of the National Centre for VAWG and Public Protection (NCVPP) analytical team, the role focuses on working across the policing and partnership landscape to obtain and integrate data which will be used to strengthen the insights and evidence base which is used by the NCVPP and wider to improve the policing response to VAWG and Public Protection harms, including opportunities for prevention. The postholder will play an important role in applying their technical skills to maximise the insights available from the data NCVPP collect, this includes developing data models and visualisations, and translating complex findings into clear, actionable insights for senior stakeholders, contributing to continuous improvement and national best practice.

Person specification

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Deliver high-quality data analysis and insight, using advanced analytical and visualisation tools (including Power BI) to support strategic decision-making across policing and partner organisations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements, obtain and integrate datasets, and maximise the value of data.
  • Provide expert analytical advice and guidance to peers and stakeholders, strengthening data capability across the NCVPP.

To be successful in this role you’ll need:

  • To be an expert in BI tools such as Power BI and confident working with large and complex datasets to maximise insights
  • Experience in developing analysis to support strategic decision making
  • Proven experience of driving data improvements by working with peers, internal and external stakeholders
  • An understanding of the policing landscape
