Senior Data Cabling Engineer

We are looking to hire an experienced Senior Data Cabling Engineer in or around Glasgow to join our expanding team at Talkwire.

Job Details

  • Pay: £34,500 - £38,500 per annum
  • Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
  • Shift and Schedule: Overtime
  • Allowances: (Potential additional earnings of £7k to £12k)
    • Overnight allowance: £40 per night
    • Overtime: Double time at weekends

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates should possess a strong understanding and hands-on experience in the installation, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of structured cabling systems (both Copper and Fibre) that support data and voice networks, adhering to internationally recognised standards.

This role involves working in various environments to ensure reliable and efficient connectivity for different organisations. Since our customers are located throughout the UK, travel and overnight stays are required.

Skills and Requirements

  • Installation and Termination:
    • Install and terminate copper and fibre optic cabling for data and voice networks.
    • Perform cabling tasks, including pulling, labelling, patching, and testing.
    • Mount and secure network devices such as switches, patch panels, and routers.
    • Install various types of conduit and metal containment systems, such as cable trays and baskets.
  • System Testing and Troubleshooting:
    • Use diagnostic tools (Fluke) to test and certify network cabling for performance and compliance with standards.
    • Identify and resolve connectivity issues in structured cabling systems.
  • Maintenance and Documentation:
    • Conduct regular maintenance of installed cabling infrastructure to ensure long-term reliability.
    • Update network documentation, including cable pathways, rack layouts, and labelling systems.
  • Health and Safety Compliance:
    • Adhere to safety protocols, especially when working at heights or confined spaces.
    • Ensure all installations comply with local building codes and industry standards.
  • Operational Abilities:
    • Ability to safely drive company vehicles, ensuring secure transportation of valuable equipment.
    • Capable of performing tasks at heights and in confined spaces in various environments (training will be provided if necessary).
    • Competent in identifying risks during site surveys and reporting them appropriately.
    • Able to recognise and report any unexpected issues related to equipment or software during installation.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
    • Strong communication skills for interactions with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
    • Excellent customer care and active listening skills to ensure client satisfaction.
    • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Adaptability and Continuous Learning:
    • Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and environments.
    • Commitment to staying updated on new technologies and industry developments.
