Senior Data Engineer – Python & Databricks
£700–£900 per day
Inside IR35
6-Month Contract + Extensions
London – 3 Days per Week Hybrid
A leading global banking organisation is scaling its enterprise data platform and investing significantly in modern cloud-based data engineering capabilities. They're seeking a Senior Data Engineer with strong Python and Databricks expertise to help design, build and optimise the next generation of data platforms supporting analytics, reporting and business-critical decision making.
This role sits within a high-performing engineering team and offers the opportunity to work on large-scale data challenges, modern Lakehouse architectures and distributed processing environments.
The Role
This is a high-impact engineering position responsible for delivering scalable and robust data solutions across the organisation.

You will:
- Design and build scalable data pipelines using Python and Databricks
- Develop and optimise ETL/ELT workflows using Spark and Delta Lake
- Design modern Lakehouse architectures
- Improve performance across large-scale distributed datasets
- Partner with analytics and data science teams to enable advanced reporting and machine learning initiatives
- Help drive data quality, governance and engineering standards
- Mentor engineers and contribute to technical best practice across the function
- Implement monitoring, observability and reliability frameworks across data services
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of Data Engineering experience
- Strong hands-on Python expertise
- Commercial Databricks experience including Delta Lake
- Strong Spark / PySpark knowledge
- Experience delivering scalable ETL platforms
- Strong SQL and cloud engineering experience
- Data warehousing and Lakehouse architecture expertise
- Experience working in enterprise-scale environments
- Excellent stakeholder and communication skills
