Senior Data Engineer
Fully Remote
£100,000 to £130,000 + Benefits
UK Remote | Permanent | Healthcare AI
We're partnering with a fast-growing healthcare AI company that is transforming how leading Life Sciences, Pharma and MedTech organisations access and utilise critical data. With an established client base that includes some of the world's largest healthcare companies, they are looking to appoint a Senior Data Engineer to join their fully remote engineering team.
This is an opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer who enjoys building scalable data platforms, working with modern AI technologies, and taking ownership of solutions from design through to production.
The Opportunity
As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing and developing the data infrastructure that powers AI-driven products used across the healthcare sector. You'll work closely with the Head of Engineering and be trusted to make technical decisions, improve platform performance and help scale a growing product suite.
This is an environment built for engineers who enjoy solving complex problems, working autonomously and delivering high-quality solutions in a fast-moving business.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain batch and real-time data pipelines
- Develop data ingestion, cleansing, normalisation, enrichment and deduplication processes
- Build and support end-to-end ML and LLM workflows
- Develop solutions including document processing, embeddings, vector databases and RAG architectures
- Write clean, scalable and well-tested Python code
- Manage pipeline reliability, monitoring and observability
- Troubleshoot data quality and performance issues
- Collaborate with engineering teams to deliver robust production systems
- Take ownership of pipeline health and platform performance

What We're Looking For
We're keen to speak with a Senior Data Engineer who can demonstrate:
- 7+ years' experience in Data Engineering, Backend Engineering or data-intensive software development
- Previous experience working within a startup or scale-up environment
- Advanced Python development skills
- Experience working with large datasets and high-velocity data streams
- Strong knowledge of Kafka, Spark, Flink or similar technologies
- Experience with orchestration tools such as Airflow, MLflow or equivalent
- Strong SQL skills across PostgreSQL, BigQuery or Snowflake
- Experience with NoSQL technologies including DynamoDB, Elasticsearch or OpenSearch
- Proven experience building and deploying production-grade LLM solutions
- Knowledge of embeddings, vector databases, RAG architectures and prompt engineering
- Strong understanding of ETL/ELT frameworks and large-scale data processing

Desirable Experience
- AWS data platform experience
- Experience within healthcare, life sciences or other regulated industries
- Background delivering ML and LLM-powered products into production
- Strong understanding of observability, monitoring and debugging distributed systems
The Ideal Candidate
The successful Senior Data Engineer will be highly self-sufficient, comfortable working with ambiguity and motivated by ownership rather than process. You'll have real experience building systems at scale, understand the trade-offs between different architectural approaches and genuinely care about the quality and reliability of the data you're responsible for.
