Senior Data Engineer – circa £90,000 + package – London/one day a week
I'm currently working with a growing technology organisation that is looking to appoint a Senior Data Engineer to play a key role in the development and evolution of its centralised data platform. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys designing scalable data solutions, improving data architecture and working closely with analytics teams to deliver high-quality, business-ready data.
The role will suit someone who enjoys owning data engineering initiatives whilst collaborating with stakeholders across the business to deliver reliable, performant and future-proofed data solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain a scalable Azure-based data warehouse to support reporting and business intelligence across the organisation.
- Build and optimise ETL pipelines using Azure Data Factory, ensuring data is efficiently ingested from multiple business systems.
- Develop robust data models and warehouse structures that provide reliable, high-quality datasets for reporting and analytics.
- Work closely with Data Analysts and business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose data solutions.
- Ensure data integrity through validation, monitoring and governance processes, proactively identifying and resolving data quality issues.
- Improve the performance, scalability and reliability of existing data pipelines and warehouse architecture.
- Support the integration of new data sources, reviewing APIs and source systems to ensure effective data extraction and transformation.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation including data models, data dictionaries and architecture documentation.
- Contribute to Agile delivery, supporting deployment pipelines and continuous improvements across the data platform.
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshoot complex data engineering issues where required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
