Senior Data Engineer

Senior Engineer (Data Platform)

About Very

We’re the team behind digital retailer Very.

Our purpose—helping families get more out of life—powers everything we do. And we want our people to get more out of life too! If you’re high-performing, ambitious, and make the most of every opportunity, we want to hear from you. In return, enjoy flexibility, great perks, and the freedom to be yourself, keep learning, and take your career wherever you want. If you love making a difference, you’ll love making it sparkle for millions of Very customers. ✨

About the Role

You’ll be a hands-on senior engineer at the heart of our data transformation. You won’t just deliver pipelines—you’ll shape how we build them, how we scale them, and how we make them better.

You’ll:

  • Work with modern cloud technologies,
  • Help evolve our data platform, and
  • Influence engineering standards across the team.

You’ll also support and mentor others, helping create a strong, collaborative engineering culture.

The impact is real: Better data = better customer experiences, faster decisions, and stronger performance across Very.

This isn’t about maintaining what exists. It’s about building what comes next.

We’re modernising our entire data platform with cloud-first technology, and you’ll play a key role in shaping it. From improving how we serve millions of customers to enabling smarter decisions across the business, your work will directly influence how Very grows and competes.

If you enjoy solving meaningful problems, building at scale, and helping others raise their game, you’ll feel right at home here.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Designing and building scalable, reliable data pipelines that power key business decisions
  • Shaping our cloud-based data platform, improving performance, cost, and usability
  • Taking ownership of solutions from idea through to production and beyond
  • Driving improvements in how we:
    • Build,
    • Deploy, and
    • Monitor data products
  • Troubleshooting complex data issues and making them disappear for good
  • Supporting releases and ensuring stability and observability in everything we ship
  • Raising engineering standards through:
    • Code reviews,
    • Reusable patterns, and
    • Best practice
  • Coaching and mentoring other engineers to help them grow and succeed
  • Collaborating with product, platform, and engineering teams to deliver meaningful outcomes
  • Contributing to technical decisions that improve scalability, reliability, and speed

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
