Senior Data Engineer

Location: London (Hybrid Working)
Contract Length: 12 Months
Day Rate: Up to £400 per day
IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Start Date: ASAP

The Opportunity

We are supporting one of the world's leading streaming and entertainment platforms in the search for an experienced Data Engineer to join a high-performing data team.

  • This is an opportunity to work within a large-scale, cloud-first environment where data sits at the heart of business decision-making, customer experience, and product innovation.
  • You will be responsible for designing, building, and optimising modern AWS-based data solutions that support analytics, reporting, data science, and customer-facing applications.
  • Working with high-volume datasets and modern data engineering technologies, you'll play a key role in ensuring data remains reliable, scalable, and accessible across the organisation.
  • This role would suit someone who enjoys solving complex data challenges, building robust data platforms, and taking ownership of end-to-end data engineering solutions.

The Role

As a Data Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable data platforms capable of processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data.

  • Working closely with Data Scientists, Analysts, Software Engineers, and Business Stakeholders, you will help deliver trusted data products and services that drive business value across multiple domains.
  • You will be responsible for building modern cloud-native data pipelines, implementing data quality frameworks, and continuously improving platform performance, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ETL and ELT data pipelines
  • Develop and optimise data models and data warehouse solutions
  • Build and support both batch and real-time event-driven data processing pipelines
  • Develop high-performance SQL queries and transformation processes
  • Work with large-scale datasets across multiple business domains
  • Implement automated data quality controls, validation frameworks, and monitoring solutions
  • Build and maintain cloud-native data platforms using AWS technologies
  • Develop Infrastructure-as-Code solutions to support scalable and repeatable deployments
  • Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
  • Support reporting, analytics, and self-service data capabilities
  • Optimise data processing performance, scalability, reliability, and cloud costs
  • Collaborate with software engineering teams to support customer-facing products and services
  • Participate in production support and operational activities where required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across data engineering standards, tooling, and best practices

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer, Analytics Engineer, Software Engineer, or similar data-focused role
  • Strong experience designing and delivering end-to-end data engineering solutions
  • Advanced SQL development skills
  • Strong programming experience with Python, Java, Scala, or similar languages
  • Experience building and maintaining ETL and ELT pipelines
  • Solid understanding of data modelling and data warehousing principles
  • Experience working with large-scale datasets in distributed environments
  • Ability to deliver projects independently from design through to production deployment
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices including:
    • Version control
    • Automated testing
    • CI/CD pipelines
    • Code reviews
