Azure Databricks Data Platform Consultant (Contract) We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Data Platform Consultant to support the foundation build of a new enterprise data platform as part of a major insurance product platform migration programme. This is a critical engagement focused on designing, building, and delivering a modern cloud-based data platform using Azure technologies, with a strong emphasis on Azure Databricks, data engineering, and business reporting enablement.
Key Responsibilities
Data Lake Architecture (Azure Databricks)
Design and implement a scalable, secure cloud data platform Define and build a data lake architecture using Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) and Azure Databricks Implement layered data architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) for ingestion, transformation, and reporting Develop ingestion frameworks for both batch and streaming API data sources Establish data governance, metadata management, security, and access controls Define storage structures, naming conventions, and schema standards
Integration & Data Ingestion
Build and deploy robust data pipelines and integrations Develop API connectors and ingestion services using Python Implement integration services feeding into the Databricks environment Create transformation logic using PySpark and Python, including cleansing, validation, and standardisation Configure monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational support processes Execute unit testing and integration testing across pipelines and services

Reporting & Analytics Foundations
Design curated analytical data models and reporting structures Build Gold-layer datasets aligned to key business domains including policies, claims, and sales Support dashboard development in Power BI (or equivalent BI tools) Collaborate with business stakeholders to define, validate, and deliver KPIs and reporting requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
Strong hands-on experience with Azure Databricks Advanced Python development skills PySpark / Spark expertise for large-scale data processing Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS) architecture and implementation experience REST API integration, orchestration, and error handling Data modelling and reporting layer design experience Proven track record delivering production-grade data platforms and ingestion frameworks Strong understanding of data governance, security, and engineering best practices

Insurance or financial services industry experience Power BI development and dashboard delivery Experience working within platform migration or transformation programmes
