Senior Data Engineer (contract)

£550-700 / day | Outside IR35

3 month contract (potential to extend)

London Hybrid (1-2 days in the office) - maybe some flex here for the perfect applicant

This is an opportunity to join an early but well funded AI startup at an exciting point in its growth. Following a successful pilot and strong customer traction, the business is investing in its data platform as it prepares to scale.

You'll take ownership of a modern, cloud native data platform, building production grade pipelines and infrastructure that power analytics, product features and future AI capabilities.

This is a genuine greenfield opportunity where you'll have the autonomy to influence architecture, engineering standards and technical direction from day one.

The Role

  • Design, build and maintain scalable end to end data pipelines from ingestion to analytics and consumption.
  • Build robust ELT pipelines across APIs, SaaS platforms, databases and event driven workloads.
  • Develop modern data models and transformation workflows that deliver trusted, analysis ready datasets. Using modern analytics engineering such as dbt.
  • Build and deploy cloud native data infrastructure on AWS using Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD and modern DevOps practices.
  • Improve platform reliability, data quality, observability, security and performance.
  • Work closely with engineering and product teams to deliver data that powers customer facing products, analytics and AI initiatives.
  • Help establish engineering best practice while mentoring others where appropriate.

Must Have

  • 7+ years' commercial Data Engineering experience.
  • Expert in Python and SQL.
  • Hands on experience with dbt or similar transformation frameworks.
  • Strong AWS experience including services such as S3, Airflow, ECS/Fargate and Athena (Apache Iceberg).
  • Data Warehouse with PostgreSQL experience.
  • Experience applying modern DevOps practices, including Terraform, Docker, CI/CD and monitoring/logging.
