Senior Data Engineer

Our Senior Data Engineers enable public sector organisations to embrace a data-driven approach by providing data platforms and services that are high-quality, cost-efficient, and tailored to clients’ needs. They develop, operate, and maintain these services, ensuring they deliver maximum value to data consumers—including analysts, scientists, and business stakeholders.

Your Role at Made Tech

A key part of this is building modern data systems and platforms that drive informed decision-making for our clients.

As a Senior Data Engineer, your responsibilities will be hands-on and client-driven. You will:

  • Act as a senior contributor on projects, delivering engineering work while upskilling client teams
  • Ensure that engineering solutions align with broader operational and analytical goals
  • Maintain user-focused outcomes, balancing technical delivery with stakeholder needs
  • Contribute to the growth of Made Tech’s Data and AI Practice, both internally and externally through presentations and knowledge-sharing

Responsibilities

Technical Delivery & Collaboration

  • Develop, operate, and maintain data platforms tailored to client needs
  • Support data consumers—including analysts, scientists, and stakeholders—in extracting value from their data
  • Mentor and upskill client teams to build long-term interoperability
  • Participate in the development of Made Tech’s data engineering capabilities and internal service offerings

Consultancy & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Gather requirements from clients and users, translating them into effective, measurable outcomes
  • Document and diagram data systems for clarity and maintainability
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders at all levels
  • Work closely with Product and Delivery Managers to ensure alignment on objectives

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

We’re looking for candidates with a mix of skills and experience—apply even if you don’t check all boxes.

Engineering & Data Engineering

  • Strong hands-on experience with Python and its application to data workflows
  • Practical experience with major cloud platforms like GCP, Azure, or AWS
  • Deep understanding of software engineering principles (e.g., DRY, SOLID)
  • Proficiency in version control (Git) and testing methodologies, including:
    • Test-Driven Development (TDD)
    • Data quality testing
    • Integration and unit testing
  • Experience in CI/CD pipelines to ensure code quality and seamless deployments
  • Knowledge of Batch/Streaming data processing and ETL/ELT fundamentals
  • Familiarity with data architectures such as Lakes, Data Warehouses
  • Hands-on experience with data cleansing and transformation, including unified schema standards

Technologies

While mastery of every tool isn’t required, we seek experience in:

  • Analytics & Platform Frameworks
  • Orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, AWS Glue)
  • Database Technologies (e.g., SQL-based, NoSQL)
  • Data processing libraries (e.g., Pandas) and Schema Management (e.g., Pydantic)
  • Storage formats (e.g., JSON, Parquet)

DevOps & DataOps

  • Experience with **Infrastructure as Code (IaC), particularly Terraform
  • Understanding of logging, monitoring, and alerting in enterprise-level pipelines
  • Familiarity with access controls, policies, and security best practices
