Senior Data Engineer Microsoft Azure Data

This is a new and exclusive opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer with strengths in Microsoft Azure data to be a key lead in strengthening, evolving, and modernising our core data platforms.

Job Details

Title: Senior Data Engineer

Technical Stack: Microsoft Azure data

Location: London or Glasgow with 1 day a week in the office

Permanent role salary: £80,000- £100,000

Requirements

Strong experience as a Senior Data Engineer in enterprise data environments.

Technical stack: Microsoft Azure data platforms, including Azure Synapse or equivalent data platform, Azure SQL Server, Azure Data Factory, Azure DevOps

This is a new opportunity to join a thriving team to be a key voice in modernizing core data platforms across bronze, silver and gold layers, ensuring our data is reliable, scalable, secure, and ready to power advanced analytics, AI-driven insights, and executive decision making.

We are transitioning from a traditional Azure Synapse-centric estate toward a Microsoft Fabric and OneLake-based architecture, embracing modern engineering patterns such as serverless storage, medallion design, Spark-based transformations, DBT-driven analytics engineering, and fully automated CI/CD.

This role can be based in either Glasgow or London as both offices have large data teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and enhance ingestion and integration pipelines sourcing data from:
    • MS Dynamics CRM
    • MS Dynamics Finance & Operations
    • SAP SuccessFactors
    • A range of bespoke and third-party systems
  • Develop and maintain the Azure Synapse-based ingestion and staging layer, including:
    • Synapse Link integrations.
    • Synapse data pipelines for orchestration and movement.
  • Support the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) built on Azure SQL Server, including:
    • Transformations using stored procedures, views, and DBT.
    • Clear separation of bronze, silver, and gold layers aligned to a medallion architecture.
  • Collaborate with BI and Analytics teams to ensure Gold layer data models appropriately support:
    • Power BI semantic models
    • Executive dashboards and operational reporting

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE

  • Strong experience as a Senior Data Engineer in enterprise data environments.
  • Strategic thinker with experience supporting the delivery of a strategy.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills at all levels of an organisation.
  • Hands-on expertise with Microsoft Azure data platforms, including:
    • Azure Synapse or equivalent data platform
    • Azure SQL Server
    • Azure Data Factory
    • Azure DevOps
  • Practical delivery experience using medallion architectures (Bronze / Silver / Gold).
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with DBT
