Senior Data Engineer
Senior Data Engineer (Microsoft Fabric) – Contract Role – Edinburgh/Central Belt
Experis are partnering with an organisation undergoing significant transformation and are seeking a Senior Data Engineer with strong Microsoft Fabric expertise to support the delivery of a modern data platform. This Inside IR35 contract is initially for 3 months, with potential extension, in a dynamic, production-driven environment.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be a hands-on, impactful contributor, responsible for:
- Rapidly building and designing end-to-end data pipelines within a fast-paced context.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver production-ready, scalable data solutions in Microsoft Fabric
- Develop data transformations using PySpark, Spark SQL, and Notebooks
- Implement lakehouse and warehouse modelling for structured data
- Enforce data quality, validation, and monitoring controls
- Optimise pipeline performance and reliability
- Document data flows, transformations, and dependencies for clarity and maintainability

Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric (or equivalent Databricks knowledge)
- Advanced proficiency in PySpark / Spark SQL
- Expertise in Python and T-SQL/SQL for transformation logic
- Experience with Azure SQL / SQL Managed Instance
- Proven track record of delivering end-to-end data pipelines in production

Desirable Skills
- Familiarity with Power BI / semantic layer integration
- Experience with Fabric Dataflows v2 / Notebooks
- Background in managing legacy platform migrations
- Knowledge of data governance/metadata tooling
Location & Work Arrangement
- Primary base: On-site at the Edinburgh office (2–3 days per week)
- Flexible option: Wider Central Belt remote working, but with an expectation of weekly visits to Edinburgh
