What you’ll be doing:
The Senior Data Engineer – Palantir Foundry Data Platform is a senior delivery role operating at SFIA. You will provide hands-on technical leadership to design, build, and optimise scalable data pipelines, semantic models, and data products using Palantir Foundry in a production environment.
You will work closely with data scientists, analysts, product teams, and business stakeholders to deliver robust, production-grade data foundations that support analytics, automation, and operational decision-making, while ensuring reliability, performance, and long-term sustainability.
This is a senior role with responsibility for influencing engineering approach across multiple teams and workstreams, and for providing visible technical leadership within blended NHS England and supplier environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a senior technical contributor across one or more data platform workstreams, providing clear engineering leadership and decision support.
- Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines using Palantir Foundry (e.g., Pipeline Builder, Code Repositories, Data Lineage, Ontology, Workshop, Quiver).
- Implement batch, incremental, and streaming ETL/ELT workflows with reusable, production-ready components.
- Build and maintain high-quality, version-controlled data products aligned to business use cases, ensuring clarity of purpose and reusability.
- Engineer solutions within federated data environments, integrating diverse sources and handling complex integration requirements.
- Design, extend, and maintain Foundry ontologies, including object types, link types, property types, and semantic relationships.
- Build and maintain semantic layers to support analytics, operational workflows, and machine learning use cases.
- Embed strong data quality principles through validation checks, lineage tracking, and governance frameworks.
- Monitor pipeline performance and optimise for scalability, cost efficiency, and speed.
- Implement automated testing, CI/CD patterns, and deployment best practices for Foundry-based data assets using Git-based workflows and software engineering practices.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive long-term fixes to improve reliability and maintainability.
- Translate ambiguous business requirements into scalable data engineering solutions and communicate data design and pipeline behaviour clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Support Foundry Workshop apps, dashboards, and end-user analytical experiences where needed to ensure delivered data products are usable and valuable.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
