Contract Details

  • Rate: £500 per day
  • Contract Type: Inside IR35
  • Duration: Initial 3-month contract
  • Location: Remote (Morpeth, Northumberland – once per fortnight onsite)
  • Security Clearance: BPSS clearance required
  • Start: ASAP

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Engineer to support a key public sector data transformation programme, specialising in Microsoft Fabric, with strong Azure experience and recent cross-cloud (AWS) exposure.

You will:

  • Design and deliver data integration, transformation, and visualisation solutions in Microsoft Fabric.
  • Enhance operational insights and support channel shift analysis for the client.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentor junior team members, and contribute to shared data engineering standards and documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Data Pipeline Development:

    • Design, build, and optimise bronze, silver, and gold layer pipelines within Microsoft Fabric.
    • Implement data matching and data quality rules.
    • Optimise Lakehouse and semantic models.
    • Enable Power BI reporting for effective analytical insights.
  • Data Integration:

    • Integrate data from diverse systems, including:
      • Contact centre platforms (e.g., AWS Connect or similar)
      • CRM systems
      • Line-of-business applications
    • Confirmed experience here is a highly beneficial asset.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration:

    • Drive strong stakeholder engagement with both technical and non-technical teams.
    • Translate complex data requirements into clear, actionable insights.

Essential Skills & Experience

You must demonstrate:

  • 7+ years’ experience as a Data Engineer.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Fabric and Azure data engineering.
  • Recent cross-cloud exposure (AWS).
  • Experience with bronze, silver, and gold-level data pipelines.
  • Strong Lakehouse and semantic modelling optimisation skills.
  • Practical Power BI dashboard and reporting experience.
  • Hands-on experience integrating CRM, contact centre, and line-of-business platforms.
  • Data quality, data matching, and transformation expertise.
  • Agile delivery experience.
  • Ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor peers.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills.
