Senior Data Science & Machine Learning Researcher

Location: Gloucester Package: Up to £65k reckonable plus package On-site requirement: Circa 3 days per week Eligibility: Active SC clearance and eDV eligibility required

About the Role

This is a high-impact R&D position within a mission-focused National Security sector company. You will contribute to a small, well-funded research group, pioneering data science and machine learning solutions for complex challenges and accelerating growth in this high-value area of the business.

The role favours individuals comfortable with consultanting and problem solving at a high level of strategic ambiguity and autonomy.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Data Science & Machine Learning Researcher, your key focus will include:

  • Leading research-led development, from exploratory tasks through to fully-fledged technical solutions
  • Driving short and long-term R&D initiatives, maintaining agility in shifting focus as needs evolve
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to refine and articulate complex customer requirements into focused technical outputs
  • Developing and prototyping novel algorithms and innovative machine learning approaches
  • Translating theoretical research into practical implementations, balancing innovation with delivery constraints
  • Delivering high-level strategic guidance on emerging technical trends
  • Providing mentorship and supervision to junior team members where applicable

Requirements

Essential Skills

  • Proven background in data science and machine learning research
  • Strong experience developing and prototyping novel algorithms or technical approaches
  • Track record of taking research concepts into practical applications within operational environments
  • Expertise engaging with stakeholders to extract and translate customer needs into achievable solutions
  • Active Security Clearance (SC) eligibility mandatory
  • eDV (Enhanced DBS) eligibility required
  • A pythonic background with hands-on experience in one or more machine learning frameworks
