Senior Data Scientist
Senior Data Scientist (AI-Powered Document Intelligence) – Contract (UK)

The Opportunity
Join an innovative team to lead the development of an AI-powered document intelligence platform that tackles complex real-world data challenges. This role combines expertise in machine learning, generative AI, and scientific data analysis to transform unstructured documents—including scientific PDFs—into searchable, actionable knowledge.
As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will:
- Design scalable AI solutions for document processing.
- Build production-ready ML pipelines using cutting-edge technologies.
- Leverage cloud platforms to deliver high-impact outcomes.

Key Accountabilities
AI & Machine Learning Development
- Develop and optimize advanced ML/deep learning models for extracting, interpreting, and structuring information from unstructured and scanned PDFs, including complex scientific data.
- Leverage Large Language Models (LLMs), vector databases, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) for semantic search and intelligent document discovery solutions.
- Take full ownership of the ML lifecycle, including:
- Data preprocessing & feature engineering
- Model training & validation
- Deployment, monitoring, and continuous optimization

Domain-Specific Applications
- Apply domain expertise in Chemistry/Cheminformatics to convert scientific/chemical information into machine-readable formats for AI-driven analytics.
Cloud & Production Systems
- Deploy scalable, secure, and production-ready AI solutions on AWS cloud environments, ensuring performance, reliability, and maintainability.
Collaborative Integration
- Work closely with software engineers, data engineers, and subject matter experts to embed AI models into production systems and align technical objectives with business needs.
Innovation & Improvement
- Continuously evaluate emerging AI, ML, and document intelligence technologies to enhance platform capabilities.
Minimum Requirements
- 5+ years’ experience as a Data Scientist, with a strong track record in production-grade ML solutions.
- Advanced degree or professional experience in Chemistry, Cheminformatics, or a related scientific discipline, with hands-on experience in complex domain data.
- Deep proficiency in Python + expertise with:
- AWS cloud services (SageMaker, Lambda, S3, EC2, etc.)
- LLM applications (prompt engineering, fine-tuning, API integration, RAG)
- Vector databases (Pinecone, Milvus, Weaviate, Qdrant)
- ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn)
- Highly desirable:
- Previous experience with Computer Vision, OCR, Document AI, or intelligent document processing.
- Soft skills: Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, communication, and ability to collaborate in cross-functional teams.
- Availability to start immediately and work within European Central Time (CET) hours.
