Senior Data Scientist

Senior Data Scientist

Jobs Summary

NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is a unique organisation dedicated to saving and improving lives daily.

We seek a Senior Data Scientist who passionately leverages data to drive transformative change by joining our Data Intelligence Programme. Positioned at the core of modernisation and transformation efforts, this role transcends traditional analysis—applying advanced analytics and novel data science to unveil actionable insights that elevate services and patient outcomes.

As a Senior Data Scientist, you’ll shape how data fuels predictive modelling, operational optimisation, and strategic decision-making. Collaborating with complex datasets, you’ll develop models and solutions to empower smarter, agile interventions across NHSBT.

The Data Intelligence Programme serves as a linchpin in fulfilling our ambitions: ensuring blood stock resilience, improving clinical quality, and delivering safer, inclusive, and efficient services. By converting data into prioritised insights, you’ll enable numerical, predictive, and support teams to achieve continuous improvement and innovation.

At its core, our mission centres on enhancing caregiving for donors and patients. Join us in bringing together visionaries, those with influence, and expertise—unlocking the full potential of data within NHS BT. If data-driven passion shapes your professional ethos and you aim to make a measurable impact in UK healthcare, we invite you to explore this opportunity.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead development, delivery, and continuous improvement of data analysis, modelling, and reporting for the Blood Supply Directorate.
  • Extract, integrate, and analyse complex datasets using SQL, Python, Power BI, and Excel.
  • Design and implement dashboards, visualisations, and statistical models to enhance operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable insights for diverse stakeholders, including senior leaders.
  • Provide expert consultancy, acting as a subject matter expert in data analysis and its interpretation.
  • Manage and mentor a team of analysts, fostering their performance and professional growth.
  • Support critical projects by developing data-driven solutions, monitoring progress, and evaluating impact.
  • Ensure alignment with data governance standards, compliance with legislative frameworks, and organisational policies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with teams and external partners to deliver high-quality, impactful insights.
  • Promote evidence-based decision-making to drive continuous improvement.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
