Senior Data Scientist – St Neots (PE19)
Salary: £45,000 - £65,000 DOE
About the Role
This is a newly created position within MASS’s growing Data Intelligence capability, driven by increased project demand within our Digital Services Group. As a Senior Data Scientist, you’ll help deliver cutting-edge data solutions across high-security customer projects, blending technical delivery with leadership responsibilities.
Your role will focus on unlocking value from complex datasets through analysis, visualisation, modelling, and AI-driven solutions. You’ll work alongside a dynamic team of Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Technical Specialists, both at our head office in Little Paxton, St Neots.

Detailed Responsibilities
As the Senior Data Scientist, you’ll contribute significantly to:
- Leading data science activities for a dedicated Test & Evaluation programme
- Scoping and reviewing tasks for the regional Data Science team
- Developing analytical, predictive, and visualisation tools using modern techniques
- Prototyping AI and machine learning models, including emerging technologies (e.g., LLMs, neuromorphic systems)
- Building scalable, high-quality software applications and tools
- Providing technical mentorship to colleagues
- Reporting technical progress to stakeholders and project leads
- Supporting business development activities, including bids and proposals
- Ensuring adherence to data science best practices
Key Requirements
Essential Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in delivering data science solutions while balancing leadership and execution
- Strong ability to solve complex problems with analytical rigor
- Expertise in:
- Writing scripts (Python or MATLAB) to derive insights from high-volume synthetic environments
- Data transformation and visualisation frameworks (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
- GUI development to present key data insights
- Creating quality software applications
- A BSc or Master’s degree in a data-related discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics)
- Exceptional communication skills, translating technical concepts for varied audiences

Nice-to-Have Skills
- Strong background in statistics and data assimilation techniques
- Familiarity with AI/ML prototyping (e.g., LLMs, neuromorphic systems)
- Knowledge of Electromagnetic Spectrum systems (e.g., Radar, Electronic Warfare, Jamming)
- Interest in GPU-accelerated architectures and high-performance computing
- Experience with DevOps and SDLC tools (e.g., Jira, BitBucket)
Non-Negotiables
Due to the high-security nature of the projects, candidates must:
- Be a UK National and eligible to work in the UK
- Obtain and maintain a UK Government SC-level security clearance
