About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Data Scientist to join our Chief Data & AI Office in Milton Keynes on a fixed-term contract. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing and deploying machine learning and natural language processing solutions that support the bank's strategic objectives. Your primary responsibility will be to translate complex business requirements into scientific problems, develop innovative models, and deliver solutions that generate measurable impact. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on large-scale data projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and contribute to Santander’s ongoing AI and data science initiatives.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in data science, machine learning, and natural language processing, with a proven track record of delivering impactful solutions in a corporate environment. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field is required; a master’s or Ph.D. is preferred. Candidates should have extensive experience working with large datasets, advanced statistical techniques, and modern ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn. Excellent problem-solving skills, strong communication abilities, and experience collaborating with engineering and business teams are essential. Familiarity with model governance, compliance standards, and deployment pipelines will be advantageous.

Responsibilities
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be responsible for leading the development of advanced analytics solutions that address key business challenges. Your duties will include:
- Analyzing complex data sets to identify patterns and insights
- Designing and implementing machine learning models
- Ensuring their deployment in production environments
- Collaborating closely with Data Engineers and ML Ops teams to maintain model performance, monitor outcomes, and implement improvements
- Working with stakeholders across various departments to understand their needs, translate these into technical specifications, and communicate findings effectively
- Ensuring model governance, compliance, and ethical considerations will be integral to your role
- Staying abreast of emerging AI research, applying innovative techniques to enhance our data science capabilities
