About the Role
We seek an experienced Senior Data Scientist to break free from conventional norms and innovate within the insurance industry. Your role will focus on:
- Identifying cutting-edge data assets and predictive models that enhance Hastings’ market-leading pricing activities.
- Collaborating within a dynamic team consisting of Data Scientists/Modellers, Analysts, and experts passionate about alternative risk analysis and market pricing.
- Leveraging new technological tools to enhance model deployment capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
Core duties:
- Create and maintain analytical tools to manage Hastings’ risk portfolio.
- Develop best-in-class models to predict:
- Claims outcomes
- Fraudulent behaviour
- Other risk KPIs
- Engineer powerful new rating factors deployable in rating algorithms.
- Identify, analyse, and monetise new data sources.

Essential Skills, Experience & Attributes
Technical Requirements:
✔ Experience managing end-to-end ML projects (from Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) to production deployment, post-deployment evaluation, and model refreshes). ✔ Ability to collaborate with stakeholders—business leaders, to frame problems and deliver commercially viable solutions. ✔ Passion for emerging ML techniques and their business value. ✔ Proficiency in:
- Python
- SQL
- Azure ML
- Git
- Azure Cloud Services ✔ Advanced communication skills—cross-functional collaboration with:
- Data engineers
- Data scientists
- Actuaries
- Pricing analysts
