Senior Database Administrator
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Database Administrator based in United Kingdom.
As a Senior Database Administrator, you will own the data infrastructure that supports high-scale, mission-critical systems and ensure the reliability, security, and performance of complex database environments. Working closely with infrastructure, engineering, and DevOps teams, you will shape database architecture decisions and drive improvements across scalability, availability, and operational excellence. You will take ownership of database optimization, automation, disaster recovery, and data integrity for systems that operate globally. This role offers the opportunity to influence technical strategy, mentor engineers, and contribute to building resilient platforms in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
Accountabilities
- Own the administration, maintenance, patching, and upgrades of production database environments while ensuring high performance and reliability.
- Lead database optimization initiatives, including performance tuning, indexing strategies, query optimization, and architecture improvements for high-throughput systems.
- Design and maintain backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery strategies to protect critical data and ensure business continuity.
- Automate database provisioning, maintenance, and operational processes using Infrastructure as Code practices, including Terraform.
- Plan and execute complex data migrations and conversion processes with minimal risk and downtime.
- Develop monitoring, dashboards, alerts, and performance tracking systems to proactively identify and resolve database issues.
- Provide technical leadership by advising engineering teams on database best practices, architecture decisions, deployments, and operational risks.
- Collaborate with infrastructure and engineering teams to improve database security, scalability, and overall platform resilience.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator supporting production environments.
- Strong expertise in PostgreSQL, including performance tuning, indexing strategies, replication, and query optimization at scale.
- Solid experience with AWS services such as RDS, EC2, VPC, IAM, and S3, along with a strong understanding of networking fundamentals for database connectivity.
- Experience with Change Data Capture (CDC) integrations.
- Knowledge of database security practices, including access controls, encryption, auditing, and compliance requirements for sensitive data.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform, and a preference for automated, review-based infrastructure workflows.
- Proficiency in Python for automation and scripting tasks.
- Proven experience designing backup/recovery solutions and disaster recovery strategies for critical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot distributed systems, diagnose data-related issues, and resolve complex production failures.
- Advanced English proficiency is required.
- Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Redis, observability tools like Datadog, Docker, Kubernetes, payment platforms, or AI/MLOps infrastructure is considered an advantage.
- Experience with multi-tenant database architectures and Spanish proficiency are beneficial but not mandatory.
