Role Overview
We are looking for a Senior Delivery Lead to join our IT Portfolio & Technical Initiatives team. Reporting into the Head of Portfolio & Technical Initiatives, this role will lead the delivery of technology programmes and large-scale projects, oversee project delivery within the team, and drive departmental continuous improvement.
Main Duties And Responsibilities
Programme & Large-Scale Project Delivery (approx.70% of role)
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of programmes and large-scale projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives, scope, budget, and timelines.
- Develop and manage milestone delivery plans, resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Engage with senior stakeholders to identify clear business value outcomes, establish strong working practices, provide periodic status updates, and manage expectations.
- Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical teams, ensuring clarity and alignment.
- Coordinate complex matrix teams made up of internal technical & non-technical teams, external partners and vendors to ensure successful delivery of outcomes.
- Monitor progress, proactively resolve issues, and ensure quality standards are met.
Oversight of Team Member Projects (approx. 15% of role)
- Oversee the delivery of projects managed by team members, providing guidance, mentoring, support, and escalation management.
- Review project plans, status reports, and deliverables to ensure consistency and adherence to best practices.
- Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement within the team.
- Support team members with stakeholder engagement and issue resolution.
Line Management & Departmental Improvement (approx. 15%)
- Line manage direct reports, supporting their development, performance, and wellbeing.
- Lead departmental initiatives focused on process improvement, innovation, and capability building.
- Identify and implement best practices to enhance delivery efficiency and effectiveness.
- Contribute to departmental goal setting

Accountabilities
- Delivery of programmes and projects in line with agreed business case, scope, budget, and schedule.
- Adherence to departmental governance, processes and PPM tools.
- Production of appropriately detailed delivery plans and regular status reporting for all responsible initiatives.
- Maintenance of strong stakeholder relationships and effective communication.
- Management of external partner & supplier performance and escalation of issues as required.
- Line management of team members in line with their roles and responsibilities.
- Completion of mandatory company training and compliance with health and safety requirements.
What Are We Looking For?
Knowledge & Skills
- Deep understanding of programme and project management methodologies (e.g., MSP, PRINCE2, Agile) and the ability to apply them to complex, multi-workstream initiatives.
- Ability to develop, communicate, and execute strategic plans that align with organisational objectives, ensuring successful delivery of outcomes.
- Proficiency in managing budgets, forecasting, resource allocation, and financial reporting for large-scale programmes.
- Advanced skills in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks, issues, and dependencies across multiple projects and stakeholders.
- Excellent skills in engaging, influencing, and communicating with stakeholders at all levels, including executives, partners, and cross-functional teams.

Experience
Prior to the role it would be essential that you have:
- 8+ years’ experience in delivering technology programmes and large-scale projects.
- Experience managing project budgets and forecasting, including burn down, estimates at completion and tracking actual vs planned spend.
- Proven track record of end-to-end technology solution delivery using different methodologies.
- Experience overseeing multiple concurrent projects
- Proven track record of successfully managing high performing teams.
Some desirable experience that you may bring to the role:
- Experience of working in a fast paced, ever-changing environment.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Trained in Project Management Methodology (AGILE, PRINCE 2, PMP, APM, MSP or other)
Desirable
- Degree educated
- Business analysis skills
