Senior Democratic Services Officer (P01745)

Starting salary £41,992pa with progression to £45,089pa through annual increments subject to satisfactory service (inclusive of outer fringe allowance)

37 hours per week (hybrid working and in person evening meetings)

Contract: Up to 9 months


About the Role

The Borough of Welwyn Hatfield is unique, with its foundation steeped in history. It is no surprise it is a place where people want to live and work.

In this pivotal role, you will ensure residents of the Borough have access to local democracy whilst upholding the principals of good governance. If you have a genuine interest in democracy and governance, are committed to driving change and improving services, this is the role for you.

The successful candidate will become a key member of the Governance Services Team and will provide a comprehensive range of services, including support to various council meetings throughout the municipal year.

You will play a full role in the democratic life of the council: being responsible for the preparation of committee summonses, agendas, provision of advice during meetings, report preparation and ensuring an accurate and timely record of meetings is made.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure residents of the Borough have access to local democracy whilst upholding the principals of good governance.
  • Support to various council meetings throughout the municipal year.
  • Preparation of committee summonses, agendas, provision of advice during meetings, report preparation and ensuring an accurate and timely record of meetings is made.

Requirements

  • Experience of committee administration.
  • Working knowledge of the democratic decision-making process.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to converse with ease with other staff and members of the public.
  • Provide advice in accurate spoken English.

About You

This is a small team, so we need a good team player who welcomes and responds positively to change.

The role is hybrid - we are looking for somebody to work in our primary office in Welwyn Garden City two days per week, depending on service needs. You will also be required to attend evening meetings.
