Senior Dental Officer (Ref: 248669)

Substantive

Full-time 37.5 hours per week

Salary £84,180 - £98,460 per annum plus allowances (details below)

We have a fantastic opportunity for a qualified dentist to join our busy Public Dental Service, working in a salaried dental practice setting within modern and well-equipped surgeries. This is an excellent opportunity to join an evolving remote and rural dental team, with a strong focus on patient-centred care and continuous improvement.

As part of our salaried dental service you will enjoy working with a full range of dental treatments for patients of all ages with a variety of dental needs across island, rural or town locations. With support from the Director of Dentistry, you will participate in a programme of supported CPD, with opportunities to develop expertise in specific areas, enjoying a close relationship with secondary care. You will also have the opportunity to develop management and leadership experience being the lead clinician for the clinical team.

NHS Shetland provides a full range of dental services through the Public Dental Service; secondary care dental services (orthodontics, restorative and maxillofacial surgery) through a clinical network of visiting consultants; dental care for priority groups with special needs; school inspections and oral health promotion services. The workforce consists of dentists, therapists, dental nurses, oral health advisors and high-quality, dedicated dental support staff.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
