Senior Design Civil Engineer – Water

Our client, a specialist engineering design consultancy within the water sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Design Civil Engineer to support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team, working across multidisciplinary projects from concept through to detailed design. You will be responsible for developing practical, efficient, and compliant engineering solutions while providing technical guidance to junior team members and collaborating with clients and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce engineering design deliverables that meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop practical solutions from project scopes, technical assessments, and site investigations.
  • Communicate technical solutions effectively with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Support and mentor CAD technicians, graduates, and junior engineers.
  • Prepare design risk assessments, calculations, reports, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, guidance, and client specifications.
  • Manage and document design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Follow established engineering design processes and procedures.
  • Support project planning and estimate design resource requirements.
  • Attend and present at design reviews, risk assessments, and technical meetings.

Requirements

Essential

  • Around 10 years' design experience within the regulated water industry.
  • Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification, or significant experience gained through technician-level progression.
  • Experience carrying out hydraulic calculations and producing hydraulic profiles.
  • Strong understanding of clean water and wastewater systems.
  • Experience delivering infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working through outline and detailed design phases.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, engineering materials, and drawing standards.
  • Strong digital and engineering software capabilities.
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution and working towards Chartered status.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
