Senior Design Coordinator

Senior Design Coordinator – Energy, HWUP Project (National Grid)

Location: National Grid HQ, England Employer: Murphy Sector: Transmission, Distribution & Renewables EPC Projects

About the Role

The Senior Design Coordinator will work within National Grid’s HWUP Project, liaising with internal and external teams to ensure seamless design coordination, constructability assessments, and compliance with project deadlines. As a key interface between design, procurement, and on-site operations, this role bridges engineering, construction, and technological innovation—critical to maintaining Murphy’s leadership in sustainable energy solutions.

Our 75-year legacy of pioneering design and construction honours a trailblazing approach where collaboration and forward-thinking engineering deliver industry-defining projects. As part of our expanding repository of expertise, you will enforce technical excellence while overseeing the transition from conceptual designs to executable construction outputs.

Key Responsibilities

Core Project Coordination & Technical Leadership

  • Review, validate, and advocate for the quality and completeness of design submissions from internal teams, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Lead design engineering oversight for small-to-medium scale projects, ensuring adherence to British/Irish/EU safety/regulatory standards.
  • Manage multidisciplinary design workflows, ensuring design updates, amendments, and requests for information (RFIs) are resolved efficiently.
  • Coordinate and monitor design deliverables across internal designers, consultancies, BIM models, suppliers, and interface contractors.
  • Ensure proper implementation of CDE systems (Aconex/approved alternatives) for secure, accessible document control—seeing stakeholders use them effectively to prevent revisions and delays.
  • Progress-track design against project schedules, conducting weekly/monthly reporting to PM and TG teams, flagging risks/constraints early.
  • Deliver review sessions on design detail using CAD and BIM tools (AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks), verifying constructability and permanent works alignment.
  • Lead close-out of design issues through NCRs (Non-Conformance) processes, adhering to remedial timelines and escalation protocols.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
