Senior Design Engineer – Murphy Applied Engineering
About the Role
Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Design Engineer to work with Murphy Applied Engineering in Stone Cross, Warrington.
Our engineering teams represent a multi-disciplined range of engineering skills, adding value across all our sectors. We push the boundaries of digital construction, engineering innovation and design, delivering intelligent, sustainable and economical engineering solutions.
Under the banner of Murphy Applied Engineering, our in-house teams cover civil, structural, mechanical, geotechnical and process engineering. These teams design both permanent and temporary works for projects across all our locations. They also serve as a trusted source of expert advice for both Murphy colleagues and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Murphy Senior Design Engineer typically includes:
- Representing the MAE team in collaborative project team meetings.
- Reporting to the team Senior/ Principal Design Engineer or Senior Engineering Manager.
- Conducting civil/structural designs.
- Undertaking site visits when necessary.
- Collating feedback on solutions and contributing to lessons learned meetings.
- Preparing fully integrated permanent works proposals/solutions to align with company bidding and project delivery requirements.
- Mentoring junior staff and graduates within MAE.

Required Qualifications & Skills
- HND/Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering (working towards chartered status with ICE/IStructE).
- Proficiency in both steelwork and concrete design, using software tools and manual methods in line with relevant design standards and eurocodes.
- Ability to work autonomously or as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills with a desire to build cross-functional relationships within the company.
- An open-minded approach to solving civil/structural engineering challenges, seeking best solutions from all project perspectives.
- Willingness to regularly visit sites and offices.
