EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Senior Design Engineer takes the lead on all our Water Treatment technical solutions. You will undertake feasibility evaluation / technical assessments for projects and create designs for Water Treatment plants that will serve our 10 million customers across the Midlands leaving a true legacy in the community. You will be required to create and evaluate engineering designs produced by our in-house designers and through consultant design teams. Working with experienced Principal Design Engineers and by mentoring junior members of the team this is a role where we want you to grow your own skills and mentor others.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer with Civil Engineering skills. The role covers sites across the Midlands and can be based in any one of our 3 regional hubs - Finham (Coventry), Raynesway (Derby) or Shelton (Shropshire).

In this role you’ll be our lead on all technical aspects of feasibility and design for our water treatment projects. Help us to deliver the best solutions for getting water into supply by driving innovative, best in class outputs with a focus on sustainability and quality. Our solutions need to meet the challenges of today and look forward to the demands of producing a clean water supply for millions of people in an ever changing climate.

Each day will be different as you create civil designs & specifications, for a range of civil assets across the full project lifecycle. From project conception through to commissioning, you will be ensuring civil designs are safe, efficient, operable and aligned with our customers’ needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Creation of designs (optioneering, outline design, detailed design) and specifications for subsequent delivery.
  • Assurance and control of third-party designs to meet the requirements of our customers and regulators.
  • Coach and support the programme team so that the best solution is delivered (and commissioned) to the agreed, contracted design specification.
  • Develop and own design assessment and design completion milestones within the Project Team.
  • Proactively drive the project risk management and ensure risk registers are maintained throughout the entire design process.
  • Provide Expert support to the wider design team by coaching and mentoring other engineers to ensure they can deliver to the highest future standards.
  • Promote a Health and Safety focus into the lifecycle of the design.
  • Use your Engineering excellence to develop our standardised designs.

What You’ll Bring To The Role

You will come equipped with your design experience and a desire to create innovative and efficient solutions for the challenges facing Water Treatment. You will need to be confident engaging with stakeholders in all areas and levels of the business to get the designs right. You must be able to build relationships and influence at all levels of the business, from frontline operations to senior leadership.

You will have a degree in civil engineering and showing your professional commitment as a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or actively working towards incorporated or chartered status, a journey which we are keen to support you on.
