Senior Design Engineer

Senior Design Engineer: Hydraulic Installation

Location: Peterlee, UK

Hours: Full-Time (36.5 hours per week), 1st Shift

Position Type: Permanent

About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Design Engineer to join our Hydraulic Installation team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and developing robust hydraulic installation systems that align with machine requirements for performance, durability, quality, cost, and manufacturability.

You will lead complex projects, collaborate with global cross-functional teams, and drive our pursuit of Defect Free engineering by utilising and refining best practices.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design and Analysis:

    • Develop advanced designs in Creo.
    • Perform structural analysis using Simulate to ensure design integrity.
  • Data and Lifecycle Management:

    • Release new designs within Teamcenter.
    • Efficiently manage engineering change management processes.
  • Project Management:

    • Independently manage complex projects to deliver high-quality, completed staff work on time.

  • Continuous Improvement:

    • Embrace and further develop standard work and best practices to achieve defect-free product launches.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:

    • Partner with global multidisciplinary teams, as well as local manufacturing and operations teams.
    • Review design issues, implement changes, and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Supplier Engagement:

    • Collaborate directly with suppliers on new component designs and revisions to existing parts.
  • Travel Requirements:

    • Minimal travel required; occasional local factory or supplier site visits.

Qualifications And Experience

Basic Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Experience: 9+ years of progressive engineering experience encompassing design, validation, or simulation.
  • Technical Knowledge: Intermediate understanding of hydraulic systems and/or heavy machine integration.
  • Product Lifecycle: Proven hands-on experience in full-cycle product development.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, thriving in collaborative team environments.

Desired Top Candidates Will Also Have:

  • Direct engineering experience specific to Hydraulic Installation.
  • Experience within the surface mining and/or quarry products industries.
  • A strong understanding of the Caterpillar New Product Introduction (NPI) process and requirements.
  • A strong understanding of Caterpillar Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) processes.
