The Senior Design Engineer plays a key role within the Engineering Services team, providing technical expertise , design oversight and engineering support on multi-disciplinary construction projects. Reporting to the Design Engineer Lead, the Senior Design Engineer ensures high-quality technical solutions are delivered while supporting junior engineers and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. This role requires strong engineering judgement, technical leadership and excellent collaboration skills across design, project and construction teams.
Responsibilities
Design & Technical Expertise
Lead the development of detailed engineering designs, specifications and technical solutions for building envelope and related systems. Review and validate design inputs from junior engineers, consultants and sub-contractors to ensure compliance with project and regulatory requirements. Provide technical support to project teams to resolve complex design challenges and optimise constructability. Produce technical reports, calculations and documentation to support design and compliance requirements.
Project Delivery & Coordination
Collaborate with project teams, including site management, contractors and consultants, to ensure smooth delivery of design intent. Attend design meetings and workshops, providing technical input and guidance. Ensure integration of design solutions with BIM processes and digital workflows, supporting the wider Digital Project Delivery (DPD) strategy. Monitor project design milestones and deliverables to ensure timelines and quality standards are met.

Process Improvement & Quality Assurance
Support the implementation of engineering standards, protocols and design procedures within the team. Identify areas for process improvement and provide recommendations to improve efficiency, accuracy and quality. Conduct technical reviews and audits to ensure compliance with company standards, client requirements and regulatory obligations.
Mentoring & Team Support
Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and design staff. Support training and development initiatives within the Engineering Services team. Encourage knowledge sharing and dissemination of best practices across projects.
Experience
Essential
Proven experience in structural or building envelope engineering on complex construction projects. Technical knowledge of façade systems, roofing, glazing, cladding and associated engineering principles. Experience in using BIM for design coordination, clash detection and design validation. Demonstrable ability to lead design tasks and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
Desirable
Excellent problem-solving, prioritisation and project management skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of liaising effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients.
Qualifications
Essential
Degree in Civil, Structural, Architectural or Building Services Engineering or equivalent. Proficiency in BIM and digital design software (Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD or similar). Professional engineering accreditation (e.g., MICE, RIBA or equivalent) desirable.
