Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Division: BW Integrated Systems (BWIS)
Company Overview: BWIS is part of a £3m global organisation and an industry leader in the design and manufacture of end-of-line packaging equipment, robotic automation solutions, and integrated packaging systems. The role emphasises achieving harmony between people and performance, offering variety, growth, and meaningful work.
Location: Doncaster
About the Role
The Mechanical Engineer will play a pivotal role in:
- Assisting with the release and maintenance of our current product portfolio.
- Addressing integration of new products into the Doncaster range.
- Providing bespoke and innovative solutions tailored to packaging industry needs.
- Supporting the BW Way business system, particularly the Engineering Excellence strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Detailing:
- Model and detail machined, fabricated, and sheet metal parts and assemblies.
- Systems Specification:
- Specify drive and pneumatic systems.
- Documentation:
- Produce design calculations, P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and other technical documentation.
- Update and create facility layout drawings.
- Compliance and Risk Assessment:
- Ensure all engineering output complies with relevant Directives and Harmonised Standards.
- Complete design risk assessments.
- Manufacturing Integration:
- Upload detailed Bill of Materials (BOM) to our ERP system and release for production.
- Generate accurate customer documentation reflecting supplied equipment.
- Business Needs:
- Travel (sometimes internationally) to customer sites and Barry-Wehmiller locations as required.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when workload demands.

Ideal Candidate Profile
Though not exhaustive, the role is aligned with candidates who have:
- A broad engineering background, preferably within the packaging, special purpose machinery, or automation sectors.
- +5 years of engineering/design experience.
- Qualifications: An HNC/HND or higher in mechanical engineering are advantageous.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in SolidWorks 2020.
- Competency in AutoCAD.
- Experience with robotic end-of-arm tool design is a plus.
- Mindset: BW embraces diverse backgrounds. Candidates with relevant (though not identical) experience are encouraged to apply.
