Senior Design Engineer

Senior Design Engineer – PA/PAVA Solutions (Hybrid/Rules of Engagement, Some Travel to Canning Town Office)

E16 (Negotiable depending on experience)

About the Role

Right across infrastructure, there’s a requirement to not only maintain, but also renew and reimagine. At Telent, whatever stage you’re at in your career, you’ll have the opportunity to grow and develop while delivering essential infrastructure services for life.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our expanding Rail Systems Engineering team, supporting the maintenance and upgrade of the UK-wide rail network. Our customers include Transport for London, Network Rail, and multiple Train Operating Companies.

Reporting to the Lead Design Engineer, the Senior Design Engineer will be responsible for delivering project upgrades across TfL and Network Rail infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

As the Senior Design Engineer for customer projects, you will oversee all technical aspects, including:

  • Managing the production of design packages for minor and major works for new and existing system upgrades.
  • Ensuring all works meet the correct contract technical standards.
  • Collaborating with project management teams to scope new work and produce quotations.
  • Leading technical reviews to verify compliance with requirements, including risk assessments under CDM obligations.
  • Ensuring full integration of designs with other engineering disciplines.
  • Overseeing test documentation to validate implemented designs.
  • Providing technical support to implementation teams.
  • Producing as-built documentation and associated test results.
  • Reporting progress to the Project Manager.
  • Driving efficiencies through design reuse and eliminating rework costs.
  • Optimising designer utilisation and streamlining resource planning.
  • Supporting the evolution of technical solutions, incorporating emerging technologies to enhance service delivery.
  • Building and assisting with Fatigue Testing (FAT) and on-site implementation of reference systems.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
