STRATEGIC INNOVATION & DESIGN embodies the studio’s practice. With empathy toward fast-changing social needs and environmental challenges, BLOND harnesses insights to pinpoint opportunities that have the potential to enhance contemporary lifestyles and provoke change. OPPORTUNITY

This position is offered on a 1-year term

We’re looking for a Senior Design Engineer who combines technical ability with a sensitivity to form, materials, and the human experience—someone who thrives in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary studio environment and is passionate about turning visionary ideas into reality.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will play a critical role in developing design concepts into manufacturable products. You’ll collaborate closely with industrial designers, strategists, and management to ensure that every detail—from materials and mechanisms to assembly and performance—aligns with our design intent and sustainability values. This is an opportunity to work on high-profile, forward-thinking projects for global brands, start-ups, and cultural institutions.

DUTIES

  • Translate the client’s briefing into components through innovative and reliable mechanical product development
  • Design and develop mechanical systems, keeping in mind budget, timelines, and essential resources
  • Develop detailed 3D CAD models and assemblies suitable for prototyping and production
  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of the mechanical system design process, from planning and design to testing and implementation
  • Work with industrial designers to refine form, ergonomics, and CMF details
  • Research and keep up with the dynamic technology, processes, and materials relevant to advanced product development
  • Manage prototyping, testing, and validation of design concepts
  • Liaise with external engineering partners, suppliers and manufacturers
  • Balance aesthetic, functional, and commercial considerations throughout the design process, ensuring BLOND standards are met
  • Contribute to the development of motor-driven assemblies and electromechanical subsystems, from concept through functional prototype
  • Support early-stage system architecture decisions, including actuation, sensing, packaging, and basic control considerations

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
