Job Title: Design Management Team Lead

Responsibilities

Core Role in Design Management
  • Management of Design Management Team
    • Work closely with leadership to oversee the Design Management team.
    • Support leadership in areas such as business development, team performance reviews, and other duties as required.
    • Support ongoing improvement of team performance and knowledge-sharing.
  • Financial Management
    • Manage AECOM’s financial processes and invoicing.
    • Contribute to business planning, continuously reviewing targets to ensure team progress.
  • Project Leadership
    • Lead Design Management projects across the UK and internationally.
  • Team Development
    • Support and develop Design Management team members through mentoring, training, and performance reviews.
  • Quality Assurance
    • Review work outputs from the Design Management team to ensure quality and compliance with contractual obligations.

General Design Management Duties

The role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Establishing team structure, governance, and roles within the Design Management function.
  • Managing sub-consultants.
  • Establishing and implementing design management processes and procedures.
  • Developing communication incentives, protocols, and information exchanges.
  • Managing design coordination to alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Leading the approval process across team and client stakeholders.
  • Monitoring design schedules and tracking/reporting progress and milestones.
  • Agreeing on deliverables/outputs and ensuring alignment with client expectations.
  • Organising, recording, and relaying outcomes from project meetings.
  • Managing design risk, quality, and change.
  • Establishing and implementing project controls within scope.
  • Monitoring and reporting project performance.

Required Competencies

Required Skills and Experience
  • An architecture, engineering, or consultancy background (8+ PQE) or equivalent industry experience.
  • Knowledge of agreements and industry-based compliance obligations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project and Excel.
Technical Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of the design process.
  • Robust project and design programming experience.
  • Experience in development and implementation of design management tools and procedures.
