Senior Design Manager
Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Design Manager to join our team and take the lead on a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and non-infrastructure water schemes, including PMEICA, civils, and subcontractor management. In partnership with Thames Water, as part of the AMP8 programme.
Murphy is a long-standing delivery partner to leading water clients across the UK and Ireland, including Thames Water, Severn Trent, Northern Ireland Water, Yorkshire Water, SES Water, Bristol Water, South East Water, and Uisce Éireann, where we operate over 25 facilities under full DBOM contracts.
A day in the life of a Murphy Senior Design Manager:
- Lead on review of requirements at tender stage and allocate resources as appropriate during tender and upon successful award
- Produce design briefs for permanent works
- Provide review and technical oversight of submissions for quality and sufficiency to align with scope of works
- Implement the Murphy Design Management assurance framework, ensuring effective control of design quality, programme, change management, design risk and readiness for construction
- Lead design matters on small/medium/large/mega sized project/s as directed, allocating design tasks to individuals/companies as required and maintain associated RACI
- Manage design managers/design co-ordinators on the projects, carry out staff appraisals when required and identify appropriate development activities.
- Support project delivery by coordinating with site delivery team to ensure appropriate consideration of constructability and temporary works to enable permanent works
- Ensure that the CDE system is kept up to date ensuring design deliverables and correct drawing revisions are maintained and issued/available to sites
- Monitor, track, and report on Design progress, for programme, cost, and design metrics for all Design Consultants
- Monitor, track and report on all Design Consultant performance and utilise escalation protocols as required, ensuring alignment with project requirements
- Ensure compliance with Standards and Client requirements, and assist in monitoring to ensure working to agreed design requirements
- Ensure a solid knowledge of, and an influence on the contracts Design Consultants are working under including their fees, schedule of services, programme, and liabilities and warranties

Still interested, does this sound like you?
- MEng or BEng degree, HNC/HND (note Chartered Engineer is desirable)
- Significant Design Management experience
- Experience in the civil engineering industry, specifically in water sector with heavy civils and/or MEICA as essential
- Digitally competent and familiar with BIM, CDEs and Document management systems
- Experience discharging Principal Designer duties
- Experience managing people/teams
