Senior Design Services Manager
About the Role
We have an exciting new opportunity as a Senior Design Services Manager. As a Senior Design Services Manager in Water Treatment, you will be leading the design of projects being delivered by our framework design consultants. You will be ensuring the fundamental parameters of time, cost and quality are achieved throughout the design stages on each project in the portfolio.

Everything You Need to Know
The Senior Design Services Manager will be expected to lead several critical/high value projects for our Water Treatment sites throughout the design stages of the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate needs to be comfortable working independently whilst collaborating effectively with others whilst at the same time mentoring other members of the design team. We have £300m of design work in the pipeline and we need you to ensure our consultants are managed to deliver brilliant outcomes whilst sticking to price and programme.

The role’s key responsibilities include:
- Leading the design of our next generation of Water Treatment projects through our technical consultancy frameworks.
- Collaborating with our internal Engineering Design teams to assure our designs meet high standards.
- Producing Contracts that balance commercial and technical outputs to deliver the best outcomes for Severn Trent.
- Driving our consultants to deliver on time, cost and quality against their service orders.
- Reporting outputs to senior leadership via our Contract and Data Management systems.
- Assessing Consultant Compensation Event Notifications and Quotations, ensuring Severn Trent achieves value for money on all our schemes.
- Act as key liaison for the Operations teams to ensure consultant designs deliver schemes that are effective to operate.
- Assisting the Delivery Project Manager in identifying and managing risks and opportunities.
- Ensuring a smooth transition to our appointed Delivery ECI contractor to ensure design development and buildability.
- Reporting on project progress and escalating issues for leadership resolution.
- Mentoring the Assistant Design Services Manager and Design Services Manager
What You’ll Bring to the Role
The candidate will ideally have the following experience, but all are encouraged to apply if they believe they are able to demonstrate the required capabilities:
- Significant experience within Engineering, Infrastructure, Utilities or a related sector, with the ability to demonstrate relevant technical and project leadership capability.
- Extensive experience in Design or Project Management.
- APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) or equivalent.
- Full member of the APM (or equivalent) or working towards.
- Working towards APM Chartership (or equivalent).
- NEC4 ECC Project Manager Accreditation or equivalent demonstrable experience managing NEC contracts.
- IOSH Leading Health and Safety In Construction qualification (or equivalent).
- Effective leadership and influencing skills.
- Confidence in the management of Professional Services Contracts.
- Able to identify key issues and risks that have the potential to impact the project and proactively mitigate them.
- Ability to adjust to changing project requirements and constraints.
- Quality focused, confident in challenging the Design Consultant to ensure they comply with the required design standards and specifications.

Location
This role will be based at one of our three main Hubs dependent on the successful candidate’s location. This will be our Finham Hub in Coventry, our Raynesway Hub in Derbyshire or our Shelton Hub in Shrewsbury with travel required across all 3 hubs at times dependent on project needs.
