Senior Design Solution Engineer (Mechanical Discipline) – EMEA

About the Role

NTT is looking for a Senior Design Solution Engineer (Mechanical Discipline) to take the lead in crafting high-quality, accurate, and tenderable mechanical scopes of work for data centre fit-out opportunities across the EMEA region. You will opportunity to base the role in one of these locations:

  • London
  • Amsterdam
  • Frankfurt
  • Berlin

This role involves inputting on regional projects, including upgrades and fit-outs, as well as collaborating on occasional global initiatives, such as out-of-region opportunities or peer reviews with NTT's colleagues worldwide.

Your responsibilities will centre around driving a multi-disciplinary design process, including:

  • Managing interactions with external design vendors
  • Consulting with internal stakeholders from Local & Global Technical Operations and Design teams
  • Ensuring best-in-class solutions are delivered in line with RIBA Stage 2 (30% level plans)

You will also help establish and promote best-practice processes in design, engineering, and broader project delivery.


Key Responsibilities

Design & Scope Development

  • Review intake forms and scoping materials created by Solution Engineers, then produce a tenderable end-to-end scope of work covering:
    • Site/base-build modifications
    • Commissioning outputs
    • Client-specific requirements
    • Infrastructure capacity assessments

Stakeholder & Technical Coordination

  • Lead technical reviews, ensuring alignment and sign-off from internal teams:
    • Local Operations & Engineering teams
    • Global/Regional teams
    • Other specialised stakeholders
  • Conduct capacity checks to validate hardware or suggest infrastructure upgrades (e.g., M&E systems).

Project Delivery & Performance Management

  • Support cost and schedule creation for design activities.
  • Steer external partners to meet development targets focusing on quality, accuracy, and timeline KPIs.

Field & Design Oversight

  • Conduct site surveys (or coordinate subcontractors) across EMEA to assess design feasibility.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure adherence to:
    • Internal design standards
    • Local regulatory/compliance requirements
    • Project objectives.

Systemic & Strategic Contributions

  • Monitor requirements changes and risk assessments, pushing back on issues and guiding application of:
    • Power systems
    • Cooling infrastructure (e.g., ancillary services: security, monitoring, metering, fire safety)
    • CFD models (up to RIBA Stage 2/30% plans)
  • Support lessons-learned processes, ensuring knowledge transfer post-RFS for future designs.

Continuous Improvement & Risk Management

  • Migrate, document, and validate scope changes through the change management system.
  • Assess & mitigate both design risks and project risks.

Knowledge & Abilities

Technical & Professional

  • Academic Requirement: University degree (Mechanical, Electrical, or equivalent).
  • Technical Experience:
    • Proven expertise in mechanical design for mission-critical data centres (or similar critical M&E-led industries, e.g., semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, energy).
    • Experience in whitespace fit-outs, specifically in solutioning and design phases.
    • Familiarity with liquid cooling systems in data centre environments.
    • Experience in RIBA Stage 2 designs and working in BIM software (e.g., AutoCAD).
    • Bonus: Knowledge of CFD modeling.

    • Structurally operating within multi-national consultant/contractor/operator environments.
    • Working on projects outside your home market.
