Senior QIS Developer
Join us to play a critical role in building and enhancing Barclays’ QIS (Quantitative Investment Strategies) platform. As a Senior QIS Developer, you’ll deliver high-quality data solutions and support the development of innovative investment strategies in a fast-paced, business-facing environment.
About the Role
This is a highly collaborative position with a strong focus on communication, stakeholder management, and engineering excellence. You’ll balance daily project delivery with strategic initiatives while demonstrating agility, technical depth, and the ability to multi-task effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Core Development Duties
- Design, develop, and optimize scalable, maintainable, and high-performance software solutions using modern engineering practices.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements, strategy, and seamless integration with business goals.
- Engage in code reviews and foster a culture of code quality, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Stay ahead of industry trends and contribute to the tech community, inspiring innovation.
- Implement secure coding practices to safeguard data and mitigate vulnerabilities.
- Apply unit testing strategies to ensure robust, reliable, and maintainable code.

Vice President-Level Expectations
- Advise senior leadership and cross-functional teams on functional and technical alignment.
- Assess and mitigate risks while supporting controls, governance, and transformational initiatives.
- Lead risk and control frameworks for technical workstreams with accountability and ownership.
- Demonstrate deep business acumen to drive operational and strategic goals.
- Collaborate across teams to align with business strategies, objectives, and initiatives.
- Analyse complex challenges, evaluate technical alternatives, and deliver data-driven, innovative solutions.
- Integrate research outcomes into decision-making while fostering trust-based partnerships with stakeholders.
- Utilize influencing and negotiation skills to advance key business priorities.
Essential Qualifications
- Strong expertise in KDB+/q
- Practical experience in market data architectures, including:
- Equities
- Equity Derivatives
- Commodity Derivatives
- Hands-on familiarity with market data platforms like DataScope.

Desirable Skills
- Understanding of quantitative investment strategies and how market data supports:
- Index development
- Backtesting
- Experience collaborating with trading and structuring teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Python scripting proficiency.
