About the job

Join one of the fastest-growing tech companies and industry-leading products behind ‘online fundraising’, enabling hundreds of the world’s most loved charities to raise money and deliver change for good.

Over 10 years we’ve grown to support more than 1000 charities internationally, with a current team of 130+ passionate fundraising software professionals globally. We act as one global team and have a great culture with a load of benefits (health and well-being, flexible working, bonus leave days and more).

We’re looking for a technical and down-to-earth team member to join us on our next stage of growth, someone who can own the quality of our data layer and integrations, and help raise the bar for how the wider engineering team writes and reviews code.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a Senior Developer to join our Projects Development Team with a clear remit: databases, integrations, and engineering standards. This is a hands-on senior role for someone who can profile and refactor complex SQL, design and own integration patterns into CRMs like Salesforce and Raiser’s Edge NXT, and act as the technical reference point for other developers to bring their queries, and integration problems to.

You won’t just write code, you'll review it. Part of this role is setting and maintaining the standard the rest of the team builds against: query patterns, integration conventions, and what “good” looks like in a peer review.

We know unicorns don’t exist. The list below describes our ideal candidate, but we don’t expect anyone to check every box. If you’re strong in most areas and curious about the rest, we’d love to hear from you.

What You Will Do

  • Profile, write, and refactor complex SQL queries, views, and joins across our MySQL/MariaDB platform to improve performance and reduce processing time
  • Own decisions on indexing, query structure, and escalate changes where needed
  • Design and implement integrations between our platform and external CRMs, primarily Salesforce (NPSP and Nonprofit Cloud) and Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT, including data mapping, field configuration, and sync error handling
  • Investigate and resolve sync errors and data discrepancies by reviewing logs, mapping configs, and integration output, and document recurring issues to build team knowledge over time
  • Give comprehensive code reviews and set the technical standard for the team: query patterns, integration conventions, and reusable approaches other developers can build on
  • Act as the senior technical point of escalation for complex, full-stack issues that span front-end, back-end, database, and third-party systems
  • Build and customise platform features using PHP/CodeIgniter and jQuery where the work touches the data or integration layer
  • Mentor other engineers directly through code review, pairing, and documentation not just by being available, but by actively shaping how the team writes and ships code

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We’re Looking For

Databases & Query Performance

  • 5+ years of professional backend development experience, with a proven track record of profiling and refactoring complex SQL, reading execution plans, fixing GROUP BY / ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY issues, and converting correlated subqueries to joins
  • Strong, demonstrable comfort with MySQL/MariaDB at scale: indexing strategy, schema design, and reasoning about trade-offs rather than just writing queries that work
  • Strong PHP skills, ideally with CodeIgniter or a comparable MVC framework (Laravel, Symfony, CakePHP all translate well)
  • Solid JavaScript fundamentals including jQuery and AJAX for client-to-server data handling

Integration & API Work

  • Experience building and owning integrations with at least one major CRM Salesforce (NPSP and Nonprofit Cloud) or Raiser’s Edge NXT strongly preferred.
  • Comfort working with REST APIs, OAuth, webhooks, and the data sync and error-handling problems that come up in real integration work

Standards, Review & Mentoring

  • A track record of reviewing other developers’ code constructively and consistently not just approving PRs, but improving how the team writes queries and structures integrations
  • Comfortable being the person a junior or mid-level developer brings a slow query or a messy integration to, and turning that into a teachable moment, not just a fix
  • Interest in building reusable patterns, internal documentation, and tooling that raises the floor for the whole team

Nonprofit & Fundraising Context

  • Some background in nonprofit technology or online fundraising is a real plus, particularly where you’ve worked with donation data, recurring giving, soft credits, household structures, or designations
  • Understanding of how nonprofits actually use CRMs day-to-day will help you make better integration and data-mapping decisions faster

Ways of Working

  • Strong written communication you can write a clear technical recommendation, a schema change proposal, or an integration troubleshooting note other people can actually follow
  • Comfortable jumping into an existing codebase and a busy ticket backlog alongside other developers, while still carving out time to review and mentor
  • Curious and willing to think critically, including about your own assumptions. You use AI as a tool that supplements already strong fundamentals, rather than as a substitute for understanding what your code is doing
  • You’ll be measured on the health of the queries and integrations you own, the quality of your reviews, and whether the team’s standards are visibly better for your being here not just ticket throughput

Nice to Have (Genuinely Optional)

  • Experience with our specific stack (CodeIgniter, jQuery, Bootstrap)
  • Familiarity with Stripe, PayPal, or other payment processors common in the nonprofit space
  • Experience working in agile teams using sprint boards such as Monday.com or Jira
  • Prior experience in a SaaS or subscription platform environment
  • Background contributing to a template-based platform

We Offer

  • Competitive annual salary package
  • Hybrid working, with flexibility around office days
  • Career growth planning, with a clear path toward architecture-focused or team-lead responsibility as the team scales
  • Direct access to senior technical leadership
  • Future travel to our international offices when relevant
  • Opportunity to join one of the fastest-growing global tech startups in the impact sector
