Senior Development Engineer
Livingston, Scotland
Our client is an established technology company operating within the semiconductor and advanced electronics sector. They provide specialist manufacturing, packaging and assembly services for semiconductor, photonic and optoelectronic devices, supporting customers across a range of high-reliability industries. As part of continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Development Engineer to join their engineering team.
The Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and supporting the development of semiconductor assembly processes and introducing new products into manufacture. This is a hands-on engineering role combining technical expertise, process development and project management.
Key Responsibilities
- Component package design
- Assembly process development
- Hands-on process operations
- New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Project planning and delivery
- Collaboration with internal teams and customers to support product development and manufacturing activities
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Broad knowledge of semiconductor assembly processes
- Experience with:
- Wafer sawing
- Epoxy and solder die attach
- Wire bonding
- Understanding of material properties, including thermal expansion and thermal conductivity
- Mechanical design experience using SolidWorks or equivalent CAD software
- Design for Manufacture (DfM)
- Project management, including developing and maintaining project plans
- Experience with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design of Experiments (DOE)

Desirable
- Experience with package sealing, encapsulation and surface mount assembly
- Thermal and stress modelling experience
- Knowledge of process engineering, Statistical Process Control (SPC) and yield improvement methodologies
Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or a related discipline.
- Candidates with lower formal qualifications will be considered where supported by 7+ years of relevant industrial experience.
Experience Required
- Minimum of 5 years' industrial experience within semiconductor, microelectronics, photonics or optoelectronic manufacturing.
Key Competencies
- Strong understanding of semiconductor and optoelectronic assembly techniques and equipment.
- Ability to work across multiple product technologies and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to balance cost, quality and delivery requirements while meeting customer expectations.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, identifying project risks and resource constraints early and proposing effective solutions.
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to lead technical discussions and engage with customers and stakeholders.
