Senior Development Surveyor
How You'll Make a Difference
As a Senior Development Surveyor, you will review council-owned assets and identify opportunities to support future development across South Gloucestershire.
Managing a diverse portfolio of development projects, you will provide expert advice on asset promotion, acquisitions and disposals, with a focus on maximising commercial return and achieving best value in all property transactions. We are committed to using our land and property assets to increase commercial income, supported by £50m of approved investment to drive development and deliver place-shaping ambitions across the district.
What You Will Be Doing
You will be responsible for overseeing projects and work programmes, reviewing system improvements and using your technical expertise to ensure schemes are delivered effectively. Supporting the appointment of consultants, you will work closely with the Procurement team to progress and implement development proposals, while negotiating commercial terms for property-related agreements. Providing day-to-day advice on local government regulations, codes of practice, risks and emerging developments, you will help ensure compliance and informed decision-making. It will be your responsibility to manage and report on capital expenditure in line with programme budgets, preparing and presenting reports that clearly outline key issues, implications and compliance with council guidelines.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
