How You’ll Make a Difference
As a Senior Development Surveyor, you will review council-owned assets and identify opportunities to support future development across South Gloucestershire.
Managing a diverse portfolio of development projects, you will provide expert advice on asset promotion, acquisitions, and disposals, with a focus on maximising commercial return and achieving best value in all property transactions. The council is committed to using its land and property assets to increase commercial income, supported by £50m of approved investment to drive development and deliver place-shaping ambitions across the district.
What You Will Be Doing
You will be responsible for:
- Overseeing projects and work programmes
- Reviewing system improvements and using your technical expertise to ensure schemes are delivered effectively
- Supporting the appointment of consultants, working closely with the Procurement team to progress and implement development proposals
- Negotiating commercial terms for property-related agreements
- Providing day-to-day advice on local government regulations, codes of practice, risks, and emerging developments, ensuring compliance and informed decision-making
- Managing and reporting on capital expenditure in line with programme budgets, including preparing and presenting reports that outline:
- Key issues
- Implications
- Compliance with council guidelines

What We Need From You
It is essential that you:
- Are professionally qualified with a degree in estate management (or equivalent), or hold a postgraduate qualification or have relevant experience within a commercial organisation or local authority.
- Have proven practical experience and a strong knowledge of:
- The marketing, disposal, and acquisition of land and buildings
- Planning procedures
- Service-specific and professional issues
- Can deliver work within professional guidelines and organisational policies
- Possess strong IT skills, including proficiency in:
- Word processing
- Databases
- Spreadsheets
- In-house systems
- Demonstrate excellent influencing and negotiation skills to:
- Secure positive outcomes
- Meet commercial and contractual deadlines
- Successfully deliver projects
- Have financial knowledge or training required to manage budgets effectively
What You Need To Know
- This is a hybrid role, allowing for work in offices or remotely, subject to availability where required.
- Regular work may involve travel throughout the authority and surrounding area. You must:
- Hold a full, valid driving licence
- Have regular access to a vehicle
- Alternatively, arrange an acceptable means of travel.
- Interviews will take place on 14th July 2026.
