About the Role You’ll join our Digital Platforms & Ventures business unit, reporting to the Director of DevOps – International, to modernise our cloud infrastructure, enhance scalability, and drive operational reliability across development and production environments. This hands-on leadership role requires technical expertise, strategic vision, and a passion for mentoring teams—ideal for someone who solves complex challenges while advocating for platform evolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Cloud Infrastructure & Architectural Leadership
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and deploy secure, scalable, and resilient infrastructure on AWS
- Lead legacy system migrations from on-premises to cloud-native architectures (IaC-based)
- Drive architectural improvements with a focus on reliability, observability, and cost-efficiency

DevOps Modernisation
- Modernise CI/CD pipelines to accelerate safe, rapid delivery of services
- Embed automation into workflows—improving velocity and reducing manual overheads

Observability & Incident Response
- Enhance operational visibility through monitoring, logging, and tracing using robust observability platforms
- Support escalation and recovery efforts during production incidents

Process & Standards Alignment
- Mentor junior DevOps engineers by setting tooling, documentation, and design review standards
- Act as a knowledge leader for best practices, promoting platform consistency across VERSANT Media
Who We’re Looking For
Must-Have Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineering roles, with a deep focus on cloud-native systems
- Expertise in:
- Linux systems, networking, and distributed architectures
- Core AWS services: IAM, EC2, ECS/EKS, VPC, RDS, CloudWatch
- Infrastructure-as-code (preferably Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Containers: Scripting, Docker, Kubernetes (EKS, ECS) for production workloads
- CI/CD pipelines with automation at scale (Bash/Python/Go exposure preferred)
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts across teams and disciplines

Nice-to-Have Perks
- Experience with Java environments, JVM tuning, or build systems (e.g., Maven/Gradle)
- Proficiency with Ansible for automation and configuration management
- Cloudflare knowledge (DNS, security, CDN layers)
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL/MySQL in high-performance production
- Track record in multi-tenant SaaS architectures or widely-used platforms (APIs, authentication, scalability)
- Deep familiarity with observability tools (Datadog, Splunk, ELK)
- Golf industry interest or experience with platforms in booking/membershipscourse ops
- Curiosity about the golf space (pluses for those with industry connections!)
