About The Role

We UC runs on our own infrastructure, on our own hardware, in UK data centres. That's a deliberate choice: it's how we keep customer data where it belongs and how we keep a real-time communications platform feeling instant. We're looking for a senior engineer to add depth to the team that runs it. You'll work across virtualisation, storage, container orchestration and the automation that holds it all together. Production Kubernetes experience is the single biggest win here; Proxmox and Ceph knowledge close behind. The role is hybrid from our Southampton office - a few days a week with the team, the rest from home, with data centre visits when the work calls for it.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and improve our Proxmox VE virtualisation estate across data centre sites.
  • Own storage performance and integrity: architecture, replication, backups, and recovery procedures that are actually tested.
  • Build and maintain infrastructure as code with Ansible and Terraform - the estate should be reproducible, not folklore.
  • Run container orchestration day to day and help lead our path deeper into Kubernetes.
  • Keep monitoring and alerting sharp, so problems are found by us and not by customers.
  • Write things down: runbooks, diagrams and clear proposals for the changes worth making.
  • Get hands-on in the data centre when the work calls for it.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Strong infrastructure-as-code habits with Ansible, Terraform or similar.
