Senior DevOps Engineer
Senior DevOps Engineer – GolfNow
About the Role
GolfNow, a part of VERSANT (Nasdaq: VSNT), is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer to lead the modernisation, scalability, and reliability of infrastructure across both development and production environments. Reporting to the Director of DevOps – International, you’ll collaborate with software engineers, product managers, and support teams to evolve GolfNow’s cloud-first DevOps practice.
This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex challenges, influencing architecture, mentoring others, and building robust, maintainable systems at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead infrastructure modernisation projects, including migration of legacy systems to AWS, while ensuring security, scalability, and reliability
- Design and optimise deployment pipelines, improving operational efficiency and software delivery speed
- Strengthen observability and incident response capabilities through monitoring, logging, and tracing solutions
- Drive process alignment across teams and platforms, promoting best practices and platform consistency
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy scalable, secure infrastructure while maintaining cloud-native architectures
- Lead or participate in migration efforts for legacy, customer-hosted systems transitioning to cloud technologies
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) using Terraform
- Guide improvements in system reliability, cost-efficiency, and observability standards
- Modernise CI/CD pipelines, enabling faster and safer deployments
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to evolving engineering standards, documentation, and design reviews

Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering, with a cloud-focused mind-set
- Deep expertise in Linux systems, networking, and distributed architectures
- Strong familiarity with AWS services, including EC2, ECS/EKS, VPC, IAM, RDS, and CloudWatch
- Proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools, such as Terraform and CloudFormation
- Experience designing resilient, scalable systems capable of operating across multi-environment and multi-tenant workloads
- Knowledge of containerisation and hands-on experience running production workloads using Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and ability to integrate automation workflows
- Strong scripting/programming skills, including Bash, Python, or Go
Preferable Experience
- Experience managing Java applications, including JVM tuning and build systems
- Familiarity with Ansible for configuration management and automation
- Knowledge of Cloudflare (for security, CDN, and DNS optimisation)
- Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL or MySQL in production environments
- Direct experience in cloud migration strategies
- Exposure to multi-tenant SaaS architectures
- Familiarity with observability platforms (e.g., Datadog, Splunk, ELK)
- Proficiency in modern AWS networking practices
- Passion for the golf industry or prior work on booking, membership, or golf course operations platforms
