Senior DevOps Engineer – Trading & Supply
Location: London / Hybrid Employment Type: contract inside Ir35
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join a high-performing global team supporting mission-critical derivatives trading platforms within a fast-paced Trading & Supply environment.
This is a hands-on operational engineering role, ideal for someone with a strong background in Front Office trading technology support, infrastructure operations, platform reliability, automation, and incident management. You will play a key role in maintaining highly available trading systems, improving operational resilience, and supporting the full lifecycle of exchange-traded derivatives platforms.
This position will suit an engineer who thrives in a production environment, takes ownership of operational excellence, and is passionate about driving stability, performance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and maintain global derivatives trading production environments.
- Proactively manage critical end-to-end trading workflows, continuously enhancing platform stability and resilience.
- Collaborate closely with development, infrastructure, and business teams to resolve complex production issues.
- Lead rapid incident response activities to ensure uninterrupted trading operations.
- Transform tactical fixes into robust, scalable, long-term solutions.
- Drive improvements in monitoring, observability, automation, and operational processes.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert for trading systems and infrastructure initiatives.
- Support scalable algorithmic trading platforms in a compliant and controlled manner.
- Contribute to engineering backlogs focused on reliability, technical debt reduction, and platform enhancement.
- Participate in a global on-call support rota.

Required Industry Experience
You will bring extensive experience gained within Commodity Trading, Capital Markets, Investment Banking, or Electronic Trading environments, including:
- Minimum 8 years' experience supporting trading technology environments.
- Strong understanding of major global futures exchanges.
- Deep knowledge of the full exchange-traded derivatives lifecycle.
- Experience with market data providers including Bloomberg, Refinitiv, and similar platforms.
- Extensive knowledge of real-time market data distribution platforms, feed handlers, and enterprise-level market data services.
- Strong understanding of time-series analytics technologies such as kdb+, Shakti, or similar solutions.
Essential Technical Skills
Trading & Market Connectivity
- 8+ years of FIX protocol engineering and support experience.
- Proven experience supporting electronic trading platforms and market connectivity.
- Experience with exchange and vendor certification processes.
- Knowledge of EMS/OMS platforms and third-party connectivity providers such as:
- Trading Technologies (TT)
- Bloomberg
- NYFIX
- TradingScreen
- Strong understanding of order management, execution, allocation, settlement, and compliance workflows.
Infrastructure & Operations
- Extensive experience in:
- Infrastructure Operations
- Platform Operations
- Monitoring & Observability
- Incident Management
- Troubleshooting
- Service Reliability
- Production Support
- Proven track record in application deployment best practices.
- Strong operational ownership mindset with the ability to drive service improvements.
- Experience supporting mission-critical, low-latency production environments.
Automation & Engineering
- Strong scripting and automation skills using technologies such as:
- Python
- PowerShell
- C#
- SQL
- Other relevant programming languages
- Experience developing tooling and automation to improve operational efficiency.
- Ability to analyse complex technical issues and deliver innovative solutions.

Market Data Technologies
- Significant operational experience supporting market data platforms, including:
- RTDS
- DACS
- ADH
- ADS
- Strong understanding of:
- Multicast market data distribution
- Traffic management and arbitration
- Message queuing technologies
- Experience debugging network protocols including TCP and multicast environments.
Time Series Data Platforms
- 5+ years supporting time-series databases and analytics platforms such as:
- kdb+
- Shakti
- Similar high-performance time-series frameworks
Highly Desirable
- Experience supporting algorithmic trading technologies.
- Understanding of algorithmic trading regulations and controls.
- Knowledge of audit, compliance, and regulatory frameworks including RTS 6.
- Experience working in globally distributed trading support teams.
