About the Role

As Senior Engineer Biometrics DevTest in Cardiff, you will help drive the implementation and maintenance of robust Test automation within the CI/CD pipeline in HID PACS. This is a wide-ranging role, bridging the functions of the DevOps and QA Validation teams.

The qualified candidate will lead the implementation of a fully automated firmware and software testing strategy, establishing a scalable CI/CD-enabled test environment that improves release quality, predictability, and early defect detection.

Responsibilities

As our Senior DevTest Engineer Biometrics you’ll support HID’s success by:

  • Leading the implementation of a fully automated firmware and software testing strategy.
  • Establishing a scalable CI/CD-enabled test environment.
  • Monitoring, triaging and resolving CI/CD pipeline test failures.
  • Building and documenting updated CI/CD infrastructure for new features.
  • Compiling a Test Plan from a product specification.
  • Defining Test Cases which will test specific features / performance requirements.
  • Designing and implementing Test solutions within well-defined parameters.
  • Working with stakeholders to identify objectives and viable solutions.
  • Analyzing customer issues and assisting in Defect Triage.
  • Presenting test reports to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrating an appreciation of how the product under test integrates with the overall solution.
  • Defining Test Entry Requirements.
  • Coming up with different use case scenarios for a feature.
  • Designing and executing non-functional test cases.
  • Using a range of technologies for testing.
  • Identifying simple patterns and trends.
  • Investigating problems and opportunities in existing processes and contributing to solutions.
  • Understanding the TDD methodology and working with stakeholders to validate the final test plan.
  • Having a good understanding of System/Solution testing, interoperability and longer-term stress/reliability testing.
  • Considering E-2-E and UX of the System/Solution when test planning.

Requirements

  • Engineering degree or equivalent or suitable experience.
  • Minimum of +4 years of related industry experience.
  • Prior experience of device testing, embedded firmware, software testing, or other related testing experience.
  • Cloud & IAC: AWS and/or Azure; Terraform; Docker; version-controlled, repeatable environments and CI/CD integration.
  • Test-as-code: Test cases and automation authored as code; pipeline execution, reporting, and release gating; NUnit test framework.
  • Specific experience with Biometric devices.
  • Test orchestration tools such as AWS CodePipeline, Codeship, Travis CI, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, etc.
  • Scripting languages e.g. Python, Bash, Groovy, etc.
  • API integrations: REST and NATs.
  • Mercurial and/or Bitbucket/Git version control.
  • Bluetooth Low Energy Protocol.
  • I2C and SPI protocols.
  • Windows/Mobile GUI/Application development.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of API structures XML, JSON, or similar.
  • Experience with Secure Elements, RFID, NFC, HCE or Bluetooth technologies is a plus.
